The complete list can be found here. This is just the basics.
Nominations will be accepted between January 8th, 2007 and Febuary 7th, 2007
Nominations for sponsored categories are to be sent to the given e-mail address for the sponsor of that category – all other nominations are to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
You have ONE nomination per category/sub-category and ONE only. Authors can nominate their own work, or themselves.
You can nominate the same fic or author for multiple categories, however, as long as they are eligible.
A fanfic is eligible to be nominated if it a) is set in and/or contains characters from the Farscape universe, b) was posted publicly (i.e. NOT in a locked lj-post or password-protected site) between Jan 1st and Dec 31st, 2006 , AND c) it conforms to the requirements of whatever category it is nominated for (correct length, correct genre, correct rating, contains character/pairing in question). For the purposes of wordcounts, all chapters (minus chapter titles) are to be taken into consideration. The wordcount is for the fic as a whole.
In the case of multi-chaptered fanfic posted over long periods of time, it is eligible if the final chapter was publicly posted between Jan 1st and Dec 31st, 2006. Works in progress are not eligible, though a completed fic that is part of an ongoing series is.
All fics and series must be publicly available online, preferably at a single URL.
The mods retain the right to give special achievement awards to individuals and/or fics that for some reason or another aren't covered and/or deserve special attention.
All nominations must include all the required information for the given category. For fics, this includes Title, Author, Wordcount, and Rating, as well as additional information required for some categories such as Pairing or Character.
The nominations will be counted and organized – some categories may be split or combined, based on the number of nominations received.
Voting for the first round will take place February 22-27th, 2007 in an automated poll on the Auroras website. Voters will choose the nomination that best exemplifies the category. Only one vote per person per category/sub-category.
The top five from each category will go on to the second round of voting, March 8-15th. Voting for this round will be handled by way of another automated poll on the Auroras website.
The first place fic winner in each category will be eligible for Best Overall – which will be voted upon by secret e-mail ballot by the mods and sponsors.
The results will be posted by March 15, 2007. First, Second, and Third place will be awarded in each publicly voted category, with the possibility for an honourable mention for any nominations that come within a close margin of third, and the winners of Best Overall and the Lifetime Achievement Awards will be posted. There will also be inductions into the Farscape Fanfic Hall of Fame and any special awards the mods choose to award.
What's the difference between best smut and best romance?
Smut doesn't have to be romance. And romance doesn't have to have smut. Best Romance is about the love, the relationship and emotions between the characters. Best Smut is about the sex, the sensuality – even if the act's not depicted explicitly, it can still be pretty damn sexy. Yes, a fic can be both – but you're evaluating it for different things in each case.
What's the difference between DarkFic and Drama?
Drama is about extremes of emotion – the readers should be swept along, feeling great pathos for the characters – whether that's great sorrow or great joy. DarkFic takes that just a bit further – it's about seeing how much punishment a character can take, whether physical or emotional, and/or about the result of that .kind of punishment – dark and shattered remains of familiar characters, or even the canonical darkness within. Both can end happily – but in DarkFic, that happy ending should be bittersweet. Not all Dramas are DarkFic – and not all Darkfics are Dramas. Dramas tell a story. Darkfics sometimes just wallow in a single character's perceptions or emotions.
But what if I don't think there was a "Best Romance: Scorpy/Braca: Long" this year? And what if I don't think any of the nominees for Best Novel are any good? And what if I don't read darkfic at all?
Then don't nominate one, and/or don't vote in that category. Just because you get 87 (or more!) nominations and votes doesn't mean you have to use them. It's possible nobody wrote any long stories with significant amounts of Noranti characterization in a given year, let alone one good enough to deserve an award! But because we don't want things falling through the cracks just because they're slightly less common, we've included them. Please don't vote for or nominate something just to fill a category. Only vote and nominate something if you really, truly believe it deserves to be honoured.
